On Thursday at 7:53 p.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated high surf advisory in effect until Saturday at midnight for Horry and Georgetown counties.
The weather service describes, “Large breaking waves of 3 to 6 feet in the surf zone. Strong south to north longshore current for east-facing beaches.”
“Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water,” explains the weather service. “Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don’t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.”
This advisory is in effect until Saturday at midnight.
