The National Weather Service issued an updated coastal flood advisory at 2:57 p.m. on Thursday valid from 7 p.m. until Friday noon for Horry and Georgetown counties.
“One to two feet of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways,” can be expected according to the weather service. “Affected areas listed are based on average tide conditions. Additional locations may experience flooding during periods of heavy rainfall, high winds, or other factors.”
“Vulnerable causeways to and from local beaches will experience minor coastal flooding. Low-lying roads and locations along the Intracoastal Waterway and adjacent tidal creeks will observe minor coastal flooding. Some roads may become impassable. Check with local officials for the latest information regarding coastal flood impacts and closures,” explains the weather service. “If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.”

Seek higher ground when trapped:In the event you become trapped by moving water, make your way to the highest point available and contact emergency services by calling 911.
During heavy rainfall, the risk of flooding is heightened, especially in low-lying and flood-prone regions. Always remember never to drive through water on the road, no matter how shallow it appears. According to the weather service, as little as 12 inches of rapidly flowing water can carry away most vehicles. Stay safe by being prepared and informed.
