A special weather statement was issued by the National Weather Service on Wednesday at 7:59 a.m. in effect until 8 p.m. for Dillon, Florence, Marion, Williamsburg, Horry and Georgetown counties.
“Dangerous road conditions will continue through at least Thursday morning. Temperatures will struggle to rise above freezing today. Cloudy skies this morning and sunshine this afternoon are unlikely to lead to any significant improvement to road conditions. What limited melting occurs will quickly refreeze this evening with expected low temperatures in the lower teens. If you must travel, slow down and allow for plenty of space between yourself and other vehicles. Be especially mindful on bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads,” according to the weather service.
According to the weather service, “If you plan to drive or walk, remain alert for black ice. Slow your driving speed and use care when walking on sidewalks, driveways or parking lots. Slips and falls constitute a leading cause of injuries during winter weather.”
This alert is in effect until 8 p.m.
