The National Weather Service issued an updated weather alert at 11:35 a.m. on Friday for freezing rain until 12:30 p.m. for Florence, Marion, Williamsburg, Horry and Georgetown counties.
“At 11:32 a.m., an area of sleet and freezing rain was shown on radar extending from Georgetown and Greeleyville northward across Kingstree, Outland, and into Conway, Garden City and Myrtle Beach. Movement was northeast at 40 mph,” states the weather service.
Locations impacted by the alert include Myrtle Beach, Conway, Georgetown, Lake City, Surfside Beach, Kingstree, Pawleys Island, Murrells Inlet, Winyah Bay, Socastee, Red Hill, Garden City, Andrews and Johnsonville. Icy bridges and overpasses are possible as sleet and freezing rain occur with near to slightly below freezing air temperatures conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra time when traveling.
