An updated weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Sunday at 12:01 p.m. for gusty showers until 1:30 p.m. for Dillon, Marion, Horry and Georgetown counties.
Residents may experience wind gusts of up to 40 mph.
“At noon, Doppler radar tracked gusty showers along a line extending from Shannon to 7 miles east of Mullins to near Hampton Plantation State Park. Movement was southeast at 45 mph,” says the weather service. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.”
Locations impacted by the alert include Myrtle Beach, Lumberton, Conway, North Myrtle Beach, Georgetown, Whiteville, DeBordieu Colony, Surfside Beach, Elizabethtown, Sunset Beach, Ocean Isle Beach, Pawleys Island, Murrells Inlet, Springmaid Pier, Garden City, North Myrtle Beach Airport, Cherry Grove Inlet, Myrtle Beach Airport, Little River and Yawkey South Island. This includes Interstate 95 in North Carolina between mile markers 10 and 38.
The weather service states, “If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 5 p.m. for southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina.”
